In the spring of 1987 my friend Paul White gave me a copy of The Sugarcubes demo tape. Paul ran his own design company, Me Co., and was closely involved with One Little Indian Records, the label that signed The Sugarcubes. I loved it; raw, punky, dark and that voice; oh that voice!

A few months later I got the change to photograph Björk and the picture was used on the back cover of their first single Birthday. It was also sent out to the media accompanying a press release and a pre-release copy of the single. All the music press picked it up; Sounds, New Musical Express and The Melody Maker, who declared Birthday single of the week. My photograph appeared with every story, it was everywhere!
